Sunday 4th March 2007,  All Winners Trophy, River Brue at Meare Road

The final club match of the season took place in terrible weather conditions with gale force winds,  persistent driving rain, and a rising river.  All participants earned their right to fish by qualifying in earlier competition.  Odd Bream made up the bulk of the top weights.

1st - Roger Coombes (11lb 1oz)

2nd - Adam Mitchell (9lb 6oz)

3rd - Dave Allen (8lb 2oz)

4th - Martin Western (6lb 14oz)

5th - Nick Talbot (5lb 12oz)

6th - Clive Glisson (4lb 8oz)

7th - Rob Dowden (3lb 15oz)  

 

Sunday 18th February 2007, Upper Brue Open Championships

Expectations were high amongst the 85 competitors who found the river in perfect condition.  The match proved more difficult than expected compared with recent form although weights were still very good.  The top two weights came from Meare Road at pegs 9 (G. Watts) and 10 (Dave Allen), both found the bream.  The section proved to be the most productive on the day with 8 out of 12 anglers weighing in double figures.

Sunday 11th February 2007, River Brue Back River to Aquaduct Bridge 

22 entrants found the going difficult with awkward winds and the river coloured and carrying extra water.  

 

The match was won by Adam Mitchell who weighed 16lb 6oz from the end peg upstream of Aquaduct Bridge.  He caught roach on float fished maggot early on before changing to groundbait feeder and netting two bream late on in the match.  Second was Cecil Green with 11lb 12oz and third was Rob Birch who weighed 11lb 9oz of roach.  Fourth spot went to Richard Farrow who weighed 11lb 2oz and fifth place went to Nick Hughes (8lb 9oz).  Sixth was Roger Coombes (6lb 5oz) who narrowly pipped Derek Jacks (6lb 2oz) to the last available qualifying slot for the all winners match.

 

Sunday 28th January 2007, River Brue at Meare Road

With the river in perfect condition the 27 entrants were in high spirits.  As it turned out the results were outstanding.  A total of 354lb of fish were caught, an average of 13lbs per angler.  In fact 21 of the 27 anglers weighed in more than 10lb with roach dominating.

 

Top man on the day was Brendan Curry, weighing in 32lb 13oz which included six bream.  Second was Colin Lambert who also found bream (32lb 8oz).  Third place went to Dave Allen with 25lb 12 oz (including 4lb 12oz chub), fourth was Rob Dowden (18lb 3oz), fifth was Roger Russell (15lb 14oz), sixth Steve King (15lb 5oz) and seventh, Adam Mitchell (14lb 14oz).
